SEO is where it is at on the web in 2013.Obviously great content is very important and a well laid out modern contempory website helps but really when it all comes down to it SEO rules and without great SEO well all the time and effort on designing,developing and getting a website up and running will be a waste of time if no body comes to visit and see the site and appreciate all the great content etc.
